ADF Infantry Recruitment and Training Process
The flowchart describes the process for joining the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Infantry, starting from the minimum education requirement to specialist training.
- Begin with completing a minimum of Year 10 education.
- Apply to the ADF as a General Entry recruit.
- Undergo Initial Military Training – Army Recruit course (approximately 12 weeks).
- Complete Initial Employment Training – Infantry (approximately 3 months).
- Get assigned to an Army unit.
- Complete specialist training to become a section leader, signaller, mortarman, patrolman, sniper, or heavy weapons specialist.
- Progress further
- Conduct training and development to enhance skills and specialize in various military roles.
Further Information & Advice
- There is no experience required to become an Infantry Soldier – you’ll learn all you need to know during your Initial Employment Training (IET). During this training, you’ll be taught to use high-tech weapons and equipment, including rifles, grenade launchers and thermal imagery.
- As your career progresses, you may use heavy weapons such as mortars, anti-armour weapons and Mag 58 General Support Machine Guns and Sniper Rifles. Your equipment could include Drones, Airmobile, Advanced Small Craft, Protected Light Mobility Vehicles and Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
- Throughout your career, there are opportunities to conduct training and development to enhance your skills and specialise.
