Introduction to the Artillery team
The Artillery Team are a close-knit team within the Army that work together to gather battlefield intelligence, locate targets and fire powerful weaponry.
Within the Artillery Team you could apply for an Artillery Systems Operator, Artillery Observer, or an Artillery Operator role:
- Artillery Observers are the eyes and ears of the battlefield. They use high-tech surveillance equipment to identify, locate and communicate a fire mission to the Artillery Systems Operator. When deployed, they are positioned on the front line embedded with Infantry Soldiers or in an observation post. They are also responsible for initiating a fire mission in support of front line troops. Also known as a Forward Observer.
- Artillery Systems Operators are the critical link between the Observer and the Gun line. Utilising an advanced digital system Artillery Systems Operators relay and track multiple fire missions on the battlefield.They are stationed in a command post, positioned on the battlefield with the Artillery Operators on the gun line. Also known as an Artillery Command Systems Operator.
- Artillery Operators are responsible for rapidly setting up, aiming and firing the M777 Howitzer to destroy targets up to 30km away. Also known as an Artillery Gunner
